In an attempt to prevent more Temuj from pouring onto the steppe, Grand Duke Otokar of Sylvania turns to Black Magic. Making pacts with mysterious entities, he raises up the Blackwood overnight. Captured Vlad Dracula, who had long ago rebelled against the eldar, and now reigned in secret high in the mountains of Sylvania. The Vampire Lords had long ago struck a secret bargain with the Sylvanians. Captured a Devil using vile sorcery. Combining the advice of the Devil and the knowledge of the Vampire, he created the Blackwood by twisting his beautiful wooded lands and fields into the Blackwood of today. In doing so, he sacrificed one-third of his populace to the Hells, and half those remaining were transformed into horrific creatures such as vampires, werewolves, treants, dark dryads, and the like. Most of those remaining would soon flee, swelling the size of the city of Yavizar, now renamed Blackwall. In doing this, Otakar additionally opened a dark portal to the depths of hell, from which legions of devils spilled forth, under the command of the one he had captured. But the undead and other “wicked” creatures resisted this demonic incursion, and drove them back into the Hells, with Dracula slaying the fiend in mortal combat.
