Military action
The Thirty Year Siege of Dwarfurt is generally considered the beginning of the end for a unified empire. The costly siege lead to the deaths of many Imperial soldiers, and extreme taxation levied on many of its peoples.
Following a series of quick victories against the Dwarves and Halflings in the Green Hills, the Dwarkun armies retreated into the mountains, as the Empire laid siege to the great dwarven trade city of Dwarfurt. The siege had little progress until Legate Marcus Quintar was able to breach the great gates at the cost of thousands of Imperial lives. The city soon proved impossible to hold as Dwarven reinforcements counterattacked on multiple sides, leading to an extreme dwarven retreat. The invasion of the Temuj in the south meant that there were insufficient troops left to hold even the siege camps, Marcus was forced to retreat from the Green Hills entirely.
