The Nightrealm
Geography
The Nightrealm is the name given to the massive, maze-like collection of connected old tunnels, roads, mines, fortresses, and caverns which extend deep underneath Arstol and beyond. It has largely devolved into a series of strongholds held either by the Dwarkun, or their foes. It is an often lawless place between these few strong points of order.
Fauna & Flora
The Nightrealm is populated by all sorts of strange denizens, including the sapient mushroom-people, the Mycona; Dwarves exiled from the Dwarkun Empire, Kobolds, Icthyans, and many other strange creatures. Here, few plants grow aside from moss, with food coming mainly from fungi and lichens... and meat.
Natural Resources
The Nightrealm is still host to the richest mines of the Dwarkun Empire, as well as many other mines which lie now in ruins, undarkened by the shadow of dwarf or elf. It is also the growing place of certain mosses vital to newer medicinal arts. The mineral wealth of the Nightrealm is rich, but not easy to take.
History
The Nightrealm was once, according to Dwarven legend, the massive territorial expanse of the Dwarkun Empire, but fell into darkness in the aftermath of their ancient wars with Dragons, Giants, and Elves, particularly during their exile as slaves of the Eldar. Dwarkun legends hold that somewhere deep in the darkness rests the ancient Dwarven King Dariun I, who will one day return to rescue his people in a time of great need.
