Lycanthropy
Transmission & Vectors
Lycanthropy is generally understood as being passed through a chemical compound known as Acturbeluc, which is found in the highest quantity in saliva. Transmission through other biological fluids is suspected but has never been rigorously confirmed.
Causes
Acturbeluc appears to induce changes to the host's system that induce more animalistic and chaotic traits. According to the Lemuel Model, these changes overwhelm the host's immune system on the full moon. However, Lemuel's model fails to account for the traits of lycanthropes who have embraced their bestial nature, in the control they appear to exhibit over their transformation.
Symptoms
At the full moon, the host's system is overwhelmed, and the host is forced into transforming either into an animal or into a humanoid-animal hybrid, such as a Werewolf.
Treatment
Though it can be removed in the same fashion as many curses prior to first transformation, this appears to be impossible after the first transformation occurs. Since symptoms do not appear until afterwards, prophylaxis is recommended to anyone who is in frequent contact with lycanthropes.
