Devil Wolves

Most commonly known as devil wolves, these creatures were originally the tame companions of Ancubi, known in the native tongue as glaloda.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Pre-Cataclysm

No taller than 37cm at the shoulder, glaloda were the domesticated companions of the Pre-Cataclysm Ancubi. Similar in appearance to many dogs from the Mortal Realm, glaloda had four long legs, a medium-sized tail, and a short snout. The tails of the glaloda were extremely curled, bending around in a spiral at the end. Their ears were small and mostly rounded, similar to bear ears, but with a slight point at the top.    While the dogs retained some muscularity from their worker beast heritage, they were used primarily as companionship animals and had a very tame nature, despite being bred from animals which worked in very active and aggressive positions within the fields side-by-side with the Pre-Cataclysm Ancubi.

Post-Cataclysm

During the Cataclysm, the chaotic energies sweeping through the Netherworld mutated the glaloda in both appearance and personality, producing the new species of devil wolves. They grew in size, standing at around half a meter tall at their hunched shoulders. Their spines became deformed, causing their backs to arch upward. Skin and fur retracted from their tails and fingers, bones protruding from the tort skin in places.    As they lost their reliance on conventional food, their bodies feeding off the energy of the Fel Vortex instead, the digestive systems of the devil wolves were absorbed into their bodies, causing them to have an emaciated appearance.    Their snouts grew longer and wider, teeth sprouting between their original teeth, spilling out of the mouth with their number. Damaged by the intensities of the energies involved in the Cataclysm, the eyes of devil wolves lost their ability to detect so-called 'visible light' and can presently only detect Fel energy. This quirk gives their eyes sickly green and yellow glows.    The ears of devil wolves, previously small, grew to be over twice their previous length, the slight point becoming extremely pronounced. Similarly, the five fingers of each of their paws became elongated as their paws grew in size.    The most drastic change, however, in terms of morphology, was the two new arms which each devil wolf gained. Where, exactly, these appendages came from is uncertain. Currently, the most popular xenobiologist theory is that the limbs grew from displaced ribs and/or vertebrae.
