Each PC answered 7 questions about their past, beliefs, and personality as well as two questions about their relationships with other party members. Together the group worked together to flesh out even more detail about their history as an adventuring party, including their opinions on each other, the gods, the crown and more.
Among other discoveries unraveled the thread that a major mission went wrong, partially due to the disappearance of Hog, and that as a result of this failure, the group’s reputation as adventurers suffered and they made an enemy of the crown. Amias Lavandin froze their funds and stole their likenesses to smear their names in his propaganda book
The Foe of Many Faces. After this huge blow, the group more or less disbanded for nearly a year but has recently come back together.
Another thread is that six years prior to this campaign, Vincent fell in love with a thief he caught stealing art from his father. The thief named Jox left Vincent and was never seen again after revealing to the young noble he was in fact a changeling. Now in 150 AL, King Amias Lavandin’s anti-changeling policies are at their most harmful.
The Failed Mission
The party is summoned by King Amias Lavandin to, with the utmost discretion, hunt down a dragon who has made off with the crown jewels. He promises that any other spoils they find are theirs to keep. The dragon was last seen over the mining town of
Glimmerbrook before it disappeared, so the party makes their way there. Once in town, the party is unable to find shelter and ends up seeking respite in a barn. Inside the hayloft, one of the party members finds a map depicting a section of the silver mines under the city with a large cavern marked. The party decides to follow the lead.
Inside the mines, the party encounters a duck with two-inch long fangs. The small creature speaks and claims to be The Fang Duck of Zim, a vampire duck first spoken of in an ancient children’s story. Eventually the party arrives at the cavern marked on their map to find the dragon’s lair. The large, stone chamber is lined with treasure and is centered around an underwater inlet of the Olanot River, but this water is magically tainted. There, they find the dragon, his horde and more. The dragon refuses to return the jewels to the “defiler” Amias Lavandin and vows to rain death upon his entire kingdom starting with the whelps he sent to fetch back his meaningless stones. He attacks the party. The ancient black dragon, Mrargullotrorg, would prove a formidable opponent on his own, but the crown had no way of preparing the party for the Alyxian Aboleth lurking under the mines. As a result of the battle between the party and these two fierce creatures, much of Glimmerbrook is destroyed, grinding the Kauvetian economy to a halt. The Olanot River is poisoned by the displacement of the aboleth and Mrargullotrorg escapes after destroying the jewels. Livid at the disaster, Amias revokes the party’s right to any reward, commandeers what little of the dragon’s treasure remains following the tumult, and leaves them only a shovel found in the debris “to clean up their mess,” one final insult before revoking the group’s status as tier one adventurers and freezing their party funds, effectively undoing years of prosperous adventuring.
Soon, The Foe of Many Faces by Che Langston Strutting is published, bringing the party even more unwanted attention as they struggle to continue.
