The Ra'keth Brotherhood
"Cast aside your false gods, and join me! The only beings worthy of worship are those that came before - and their time is at hand!"The Ra'keth Brotherhood is a continent-spanning cult that reveres the Old Gods, seeking to return them to the world. Originating in the Gnomish Kingdom of Bentrelhold, the Brotherhood remained relatively insignificant until the Great Schism, which brought thousands of confused agnostics to its ranks, seeking purpose and truth. Expanding out of Bentrelhold, the cult now has a significant presence in most nations, including Everflame. Despite the best efforts of local governments, the Brotherhood has maintained a foothold in cities throughout Tilen as, in most cases, a minor nuisance to law-enforcement services. There is one notable exception, however. The Brotherhood in Everflame City counts its members in the thousands, and is quickly growing, launching increasingly dangerous attacks and seriously threatening the city's stability. Eve Brieland, the city's governor, fears the cult may be getting dangerously close to discovering the Ruby, and has ordered the immediate arrest of any person suspected of ties to the Brotherhood. - The Void Blades - A small group operating out of Esidell and the Eastern Desert at large, the Void Blades are unique in their high recruitment standards. Each member is trained as a master assassin, and often sent to assist other sects in furthering the Brotherhood's interests. With their agreement with Cenne d'Grezze invalidated and their intelligence network in Tae Dendei, they have set their sights on the city's new leaders, Euan Draegard and Derri.
- Minara's Shadow - The most powerful of the sects, located in Everflame City, members of Minara's Shadow often claim to have been drawn to the Old Gods by a mysterious force. Unknown to even its leaders, that force is the Ruby; hidden away in the deepest recesses of the Citadel, the death brought on by the Second Arcane War has weakened the safeguards that prevent it from influencing the outside world. Plotting to free itself, the gemstone has emboldened the group to make more and more daring attacks that bring them closer to its discovery.
- Umbra - The original sect of the Brotherhood, the group now known as Umbra was founded shortly after the construction of Bentrelhold by a group of Gnomish engineers, who, knowing the role the Emerald had played in its creation, manufactured a misleading story of the methods used and vowed never to let their suspected connection to the power of the Old Gods be known. As new generations were brought into the conspiracy, they were gradually corrupted by the Emerald, listening to its subtle prompts and changing the group's goal. When a Harper agent discovered this and stole the gemstone, burying it in the Great Eastern Desert, they splintered, at one point leaving only two true members, a brother and sister. With the Great Schism, however, the group grew rapidly and expanded across the continent, as the engineers' influential descendants brought significant government elements under their control.
- The Children of the Gods - A group of Tieflings, Drow, Duergar, and Deep Gnomes mainly present in Duerga but also elsewhere, the Children of the Gods are made up of species believed to be creations of the Old Gods who have embraced their aberrant heritage. They have a particular hatred for the Kalashtar, who according to folklore refused to be transformed by the Third of the Old Gods, and have committed a number of attacks against Kalashtar communities.
