The Great Schism
"Where were the gods when Candlekeep burned? When Daneska fell? When the Reckoning came? The 'gods' we worship are no more than idols! Puppets! Cast off your chains, and see the truth!"The Great Schism was a global break from the religion of the New Gods, primarily caused by their apparent lack of interference in the Second Arcane War, or help thereafter. While it appears to some as a unified movement, its members are vastly split in their true beliefs, ranging from true atheists to worshippers of the Old Gods to all-new religions based upon more modern deities. Notable GroupsLeonard Midas, staunch atheist and speaker at the March on New Daneska.
- The New Everian Church, a religion which venerates Arden Sunbringer as a god and sees all other nations as inferior to Everflame.
- The Awakened, a group of mystics from Moradin Island who seek to achieve a state of complete oneness with the world.
- The Ra'keth Brotherhood, a cult of Old Gods worshippers. While it existed before the Schism, the group's members claim to be part of it in order to lend themselves a sheen of legitimacy.
- The Wanderers, a group of agnostic nomads unsure of the Gods' existence, and seeking to find proof one way or another by journeying to places they believe may be of divine importance.
- The Spirit Walkers of Gildmire, a group of dwarven athiests who turn to their ancestors' ancient belief in the spirit world for meaning.
