Dating System of Tilendrel

"Time, time. The one thing that nobody ever has enough of."
  • Unknown Fey, 2641 ANG
  • Tilendrel's orbital periods are similar to Earth's, with 24 hours in a day, 30 days in a month, and 12 months in a year. This is not a perfect representation of the planet's orbits, however, so a 13th month is added every 11th year to compensate. These occurences are celebrated by some and feared by others, most notably the Dwarven Kingdom of Gildmire, who spend the entire month in their underground caverns, hiding from mythical spirits of beasts who used to stalk the Northern Swamps. There are seven days of the week, one for each of the New Gods: Mina'day, Queth'day, Renth'day, Henri'day, Yith'day, Irgo'day, and Joth'day. Tilendrel's seasons are unnamed, but again similar to Earth's: Warm and windy with blooming flowers, hot and dry with few clouds, cool and calm with plants shedding their leaves, and cold and snowy when many of the animals hibernate. Of course, each season brings with it unique threats across the continents as familiar environments draw magical beings, such as elementals and fey, to enter the Material Plane. The months of the year are as follows:
    • Newdawn (Early Spring)
    • Greenspring (Mid-Spring)
    • Pasturelire (Late Spring)
    • Horizon (Early Summer)
    • Shinesong (Midsummer)
    • Glowsend (Late Summer)
    • Windmarch (Early Autumn)
    • Deathreel (Mid-Autumn)
    • Drethmire (Late Autumn)
    • Chillstrint (Early Winter)
    • Frostfall (Midwinter)
    • Finalset (Late Winter)
    • Underven (Extra-powerful winter, leap month)
Weather is interpreted in many varying ways by different cultures and civilisation. Deathreel, for example, was given its name by the Wood Elves of the South, who see it as a tragedy that plants die and animals hide away for the winter. Other cultures, however, see it as part of the natural cycle of death and rebirth, sometimes linking it to their religion, usually Minara, the Goddess of Light, or Yithtar, the God of Death. Despite the planet's position during Underven, its weather has been extremely cold and windy every year since the Rise of the New Gods. Some put this down to divine or extraplanar causes, while others claim that a force from the Far North influences the weather during the month.   Years are measured from the year of the Rise of the New Gods, using the abbreviations ANG (After New Gods) and BNG (Before New Gods). While some prophecies mention specific years, no major culture has any traditions or superstitions related to them.
