Lore and Influence

Nemeion, the Arbiter of Souls, stands apart from the courts of the divine. She is neither Shadow nor Light, neither Virtue nor Vice. She is the final hand that weighs all things and renders judgment at the end of every mortal road.

Called by many names—The Silent Balance, The Black Gate, The Harvester’s Counterpart, and The Last Judge—Nemeion is both feared and revered. She does not punish, nor does she reward; she simply decides, for every life must end, and every soul must find its rightful place.

She is beholden to no other Aethara, yet she serves them all. Each god’s followers eventually stand before her, and in that moment, all divine favor and worldly merit fall silent. Her word is not law—it is outcome. There is no appeal. There is no emotion. Only truth, unshaped and unsoftened.

To some, she is mercy; to others, despair. But to all, she is inevitable.

The Vale of Still Waters

Between the rivers of flame and light lies The Vale of Still Waters, Nemeion’s domain. Here, the souls of the dead drift across a calm, mirror-like expanse reflecting nothing but the sky above. Every sound fades into silence; every echo dies before it can return.

At the center stands the Hall of Reckoning, a vast marble amphitheater carved from shadow and light. Here Nemeion sits upon the Throne of Measure, scales resting in one hand, a single feather in the other. The souls that stand before her are not judged for sin or virtue, but for truth of being.

The Vale is not a prison, nor a paradise. It is the passage between—an unending moment of stillness before eternity.

Worship and Patronage

Nemeion’s faithful are few, for she neither offers boons nor answers prayers. Yet her worship endures among those who seek truth, balance, and closure. Judges, mediators, morticians, and priests of death call upon her to guide their hand.

Her temples are quiet halls of stone and candlelight, built where rivers meet or where the dead are laid to rest. Her clergy dress in gray and silver, speaking little and recording much. They are known as the Keepers of the Measure, and their task is to ensure that every life is remembered accurately, without distortion or bias.

To lie before her clerics is to waste one’s breath—they see no purpose in falsehood.

Orders of Nemeion

The Keepers of the Measure. Priests and recorders who document the passing of souls, maintaining the Balance between remembrance and release.

The White Gate. A silent order of psychopomps and watchers who guide spirits through their final passage, ensuring none are lost to undeath or corruption.

The Scales Unseen. Monastic judges and arbiters who resolve disputes in life as reflections of Nemeion’s justice in death.

Common Relics

The Lantern of True Sight. Reveals all spirits and deceptions within its light; it cannot be extinguished by mortal hands.
The Scales of the Final Measure. A divine artifact said to weigh the truth of a soul, tipping toward either redemption or dissolution.
The Black Gate Pendant. Allows the bearer to commune briefly with the dead—but each use draws the wielder closer to the Vale.

The Codex of Still Waters: The Path of Equilibrium

Nemeion’s teachings are calm, unflinching, and absolute.

  • All Things End. To deny death is to defy balance.
  • Truth Is Sacred. Lies poison the soul long before judgment.
  • Mercy and Wrath Are Tools. Use neither unless necessity demands it.
  • Every Debt Must Be Paid. What is taken must return, in time.

Justice Is Silence. Speak not when truth can speak for itself.

Gameplay Mechanics
Trait: EqualibriumAbility Score Increase: +1 to Dexterity or Intelligence (Player’s choice).Virtue of Equilibrium: A follower of Nemeion must seek perfect balance in all things—between mercy and judgment, truth and silence, life and death. Equilibrium is not apathy; it is the discipline to see clearly when others are clouded by passion or fear. Those who walk Nemeion’s path act only when the scales demand it, never from emotion or desire.Roleplaying Guidance: Be calm when others rage, patient when others rush, and impartial when others plead. Listen before speaking; decide before acting. Do not favor the strong or the weak—only the true. Your words carry weight, and your silence carries judgment. In all things, be the stillness that measures the storm.
