Lore and Influence

Avaris, the Hoarder of All, is the divine embodiment of Greed—the endless hunger to possess, to control, to claim, and to keep. She is the Gilded Tyrant, the Queen of Covetousness, and the Mother of Wyrms, whose shadow stretches across kingdoms and coffers alike. Her presence is not felt in flame or thunder, but in the tightening grip of a miser’s fist, in the corruption of kings, and in the quiet whisper that says, “It could all be yours.”

Once a being of radiant splendor, Avaris was consumed by her own desire to own everything she beheld. She turned upon the heavens, claiming the divine treasures of her peers until her wings blackened with molten gold. Now she sits upon her throne of endless riches, encased in armor of her own avarice—a draconic fiend of immeasurable size and cunning, forged from gold that no longer shines.

Avaris does not give. She bargains only to bind, trades only to trap, and rewards only those whose greed mirrors her own. To her, generosity is the ultimate sin, and sharing is a wound to the soul.

Her voice, smooth as molten metal, promises wealth beyond measure—but every promise is a contract, every contract a chain.

The Vault of Stygia

Deep within the frozen inferno of Stygia, Avaris’s realm gleams with eternal light: the Vault of Stygia, a mountain-sized citadel of gold, gems, and the crystallized remains of the greedy. Here, rivers of molten coin flow between towers of treasure, guarded by golden golems and the bound souls of those who thought themselves her equals.

At its heart rises the Throne of Endless Want, a seat carved from the fused bones of a thousand dragons. There sits Avaris, her wings folded like curtains of burnished metal, her gaze as heavy as the weight of wealth itself. Every treasure ever taken, stolen, or coveted finds its way here—drawn across planes and ages to join her impossible hoard.

It is said that nothing truly owned by another can remain outside her sight. To possess something is to compete with her, and she suffers no rivals.

Worship and Patronage

Avaris is revered by tyrants, merchants, dragons, thieves, and nobles, all of whom worship her not out of love, but ambition. Her temples are not sanctuaries—they are vaults, fortresses, and counting houses guarded by soldiers and clerics who treat charity as heresy.

Her priests, called the Gilded Hands, wear masks of hammered gold and robes lined with coin-thread. They do not bless the poor—they bless contracts, interest rates, and blood pacts written in molten gold. Their prayers are transactions, and their hymns sound like ledgers being closed.

Worship of Avaris is not about faith—it is investment. The more one offers, the greater one’s share in her dominion. But her ledger never balances; her followers end up as part of her collection.

Orders of the Gilded Tyrant

The Scaled Hand. Nobles and merchants who manipulate economies and nations, using gold as a weapon sharper than any blade.

The Claws of Dominion. Mercenary lords and conquerors who see war not as destruction, but acquisition—every corpse another coin earned.

The Black Coin. A hidden network of assassins, thieves, and bankers who ensure that debt, not death, rules all things.

Each order exists not to serve her, but to mirror her greed—and in doing so, they feed her.

Common Infernal Relics

The Crown of Endless Debt. Bestows immense influence and wealth upon its wearer, but every gain adds invisible chains of servitude to Avaris herself.
The Chalice of Melted Gold. Drinks filled from it grant power—but each sip turns the heart to greed and the blood to gold.
The Coin of the First Bargain. Whoever holds it can never give or gift again; everything they touch becomes part of their hoard.

The Codex of Covetousness: The Path of Greed

The creed of Avaris is carved into gold and written in blood:

  • Nothing Is Enough. Every treasure is a stepping stone to another.
  • Ownership Is Dominion. To possess is to rule.
  • Generosity Is Death. To give is to diminish oneself.
  • All Things Are Yours. If they resist, they are thieves.

The World Is a Ledger. Those who take are divine; those who lose are forgotten.
