The Calendar

The Thyretian Calendar System

Astronomical Foundations

  • Primary Sun: Orbits by the planet year-round, creating the standard four seasons.

  • Secondary Sun: Normally eclipsed by a massive gas giant except during Astral Season, when its light and heat flood the planet.

  • Three Moons: Their full cycle aligns every 18 days, defining the months.

  • Day Length: 30 hours per day.

 The Calendar

  • Months per Year: 20

  • Days per Month: 18

  • Days per Year: 360

  • Hours per Year: 10,800 (360 × 30)

That makes a “year” fairly close to a real-world solar year, if you wanted it to line up roughly with 365 Earth days — but it’s unique enough to stand alone as a fantasy system.

 The Seasons

With five seasons, each lasting 4 months (72 days), you get a balanced yet distinctive cycle.

The Astral Season Explained

When the massive gas giant moves out of alignment, the second sun’s radiation reaches the planet. The effect is twofold:

  • On the sun-facing hemisphere, heat becomes unbearable — deserts ignite, seas boil, and most life migrates or hides underground.

  • On the dark hemisphere, the sky lights with falling stars, glowing auroras, and ethereal debris.

  • The planet’s magnetosphere and magical field supercharge, making planar barriers thin. This is when extraplanar materials, spirits, and even gods interact most directly with the world.

This season’s danger and beauty often mark it as sacred or apocalyptic, depending on local beliefs.
