The Vortex Sanctum

The tower’s walls are smooth, carved from star-forged stone imported from the Astral Sea by Seralyndra herself. Veins of faintly glowing silver run like lightning across its surface, pulsing softly in the gloom. Narrow windows shaped like elongated teardrops dot the structure at irregular intervals, each filled with panes of shimmering crystal that resist any scrying attempts.

The topmost floor culminates in a crystalline dome that glitters under moonlight, said to act as both an observatory and a planar focus chamber.

During the War of the Titans, the celestial and mortal realms were embroiled in devastating conflict. The astral elf archmage Seralyndra Galanodel, one of the few known mortals capable of traversing the Astral Sea unaided, arrived on the material plane at the behest of Thyraxis.

Her purpose: to create a stable refuge for Thyraxis and his children. Seralyndra channeled astral energies into the sea itself, crafting both the Isle of Thyraxis and the Vortex Sanctum as a nexus of planar convergence. The tower functioned as a defensive citadel and a laboratory where she experimented with giant-slaying magic and powerful wards to hide Thyraxis from scrying.

Role in the War

Throughout the Titan War, the Vortex Sanctum:

• Housed magical forges where Seralyndra crafted Starsteel Artifacts, weapons capable of wounding titan and giant-flesh.
• Contained planar charts tracking the movements of titanic armies and celestial phenomena critical to predicting enemy attacks.
• Served as a prison for captured titan and giant spawn and a vault for dangerous relics.
• Acted as a communication hub between mortal allies and extraplanar beings, thanks to Seralyndra’s astral connections.
• Despite repeated attempts by celestial titan forces to destroy it, the Sanctum’s wards held firm. The whirlpool around it is rumored to have swallowed several titan beasts whole.

After the War

With the Titans defeated and Thyraxis ascendant as the island’s protector, Seralyndra’s fate became shrouded in mystery. Some tales claim she ascended fully to the Astral Sea. Others whisper she was slain by a traitor seeking the secrets of the Sanctum.

The Vortex Sanctum fell silent. Its wards remain intact, repelling all who try to enter. Occasional flashes of light pulse from its windows during storms, suggesting arcane experiments may still echo through its halls.
