A Brief History of Three Points

The area currently known as Three Points was originally the home to an indigenous population that fished and farmed the Hudson, especially for its plentiful herring schools and oyster beds. The first settlers began to arrive in the mid-17th century including the Wolf Lord who made his claim to the rocky hills at the foot of Bonnie Ben (the Beautiful Mountain) and the Pale Lord who raised a castle in a Cedar Grove just inside the mouth of the great forest to the west of the vast fields of grain growing along the river shore. It was 1675 when the first independent farms began to grow along the western banks across from the Dutch trading port of Tarry Town though they found the ground as rocky as the hills of Bonnie Ben.   By the early-1800s, the area had grown dramatically, especially the Haverstraw Fields overseen by the Pale Lord's daughter, the Pale Queen. Though still under a patroon-like system of tenant farmers and vassals, the area was known for its lenient taxes and stability. Similarly, Bonnie Ben had grown famous for its wool as well as its vast timber resources and skilled builders. Meanwhile, the handful of families farming the village along the southern point struggled to subsist and turned more and more to the burgeoning town of Rockland, overseen from Grandview Manor by the third family to settle the region, Gregorie Homes. Prosperity had found Three Points, but would be disrupted when a conflict arose within one of the households.   Natasha Karavan, the sister of the Pale Lord sought to oust her niece, the Pale Lady and take command of the lands. With support from Bonnie Ben and Grandview, the Pale Lady turned the tables on her aunt and again, peace and prosperity were found though short lived as less than a decade later, two other siblings of the Pale Lord arrived and tried to take not just Haverstraw, but now all of Three Points. Again, they were repelled and again the region saw prosperity, most notably in the construction of the Ice Palace, one of the largest and most productive ice producers in the region, and the expansion of the Rockland Ship Yards and docks.   A third attempt to take control of the region nearly succeeded in 1820 after which the reigning Wolf Lord, Pale Queen, Master of Grandview and Mayor of Rockland all met and signed the Three Points Accord, a formal agreement of support in the event of future conflict though in the sixty years which followed, it has never needed to be enforced.
The region saw even more prosperity after the accords were signed. Rockland grew, adding a sandstone quarry and expanding its mills, shipyard, and docks, as well as adding entertainment venues and amenities to attract the paddle-wheelers and barges increasingly making their way up and down the river. The Wolf Lords, increased their trade, beginning to fell more trees for the lumber mill and creating more grazing land for their sheep. The Pale Queen began to recruit more farmers to expand the fields of wheat and corn, and continued to grow the Ice Palace and her other businesses. The region thrived and has continued to thrive even as the rest of the country struggled with war and an ever-changing world. Most of the residents of Three Points, high and low, thought themselves blessed and protected, but lately most have begun to smell, hear, sense something on the wind. The people of Three Points may have been blessed, they may have been well-protected, but they were not immune to change and change was in the air.
