Kaw
Kaw (a.k.a. The Traveller)
"Kaw who travels..."
Background
Baa Yalu is the most commonly worshipped religion in Minaka Vale, and Kaw is one of the three minor deities.
The religion focuses on seven tenets that focus on looking out for danger, being part of a community and the individual's responsibilities within it. Members of the religion call themselves the flock. They are known to be distrustful of strangers but extremely supportive of those in their community and have a high level of cleanliness.
The Traveller
There are lots of stories of Kaw in the Kurothic Carvings, but only a handful have been translated. All of those which have been translated show Kaw as a traveller, roaming wild, sometimes out of her own curiosity and other times delivering important messages. It is never clear what these messages are or why they are so important, but it is a theme throughout.
The myth of 'Kaw and the Fire' is one of the most popular Kaw stories, as it works as a parable about putting the flock before oneself. It is also the reason that Kaw is often pictured with fire. Parents can often be heard reminding their children to "think of Kaw" at times when nerves or fear seem overwhelming.
The Myth
Kaw was carrying an urgent message to Baa but stopped for a rest and awoke surrounded by wildfire. The only path forward lay through flames. Though terrified, Kaw knew the flock depended on the message's delivery. "For the flock," she said, and flew straight into the inferno. Her feathers singed and burned as she pushed through, finally reaching Baa. Moved by such courage, Baa blessed Kaw with a magnificent feather cloak that shimmers like flame and never burns.Culture
