Banem, Explorer's Bane

"The Elves were not content with their realm and ventured into Banem's. They paid a terrible price for their arrogance, the Delatian's should learn from our mistake before they incur Banem's wrath themselves."

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Banem is a malevolent being that dwells at the edge of the charted world, the dark depths of the sea, and any other frontier not conquered by civilization. The hostile conditions and natural hazards that explorers face are believed to be manifestations of Banem protecting it's domain. When an expedition returns with treasures and new discoveries, it should be especially cautious of terrible storms lest the deep fiend reclaim them and feast on the stories and legacies of it's crew.   When the elves ventured into the under realm, long before the founding of Delatia, they suffered a catastrophic event known as the Blighting. Those who went below were corrupted and transformed, creating the Drow race. These dark elves are the foremost followers of Banem and revere it as their creator. The elven philosopher Elindel believed that civilizations should leave some frontiers uncharted, fearing even greater retribution if the titan were cornered.   Other followers of Banem are people and organizations who have their own secrets and value dark places to act unseen, such as assassins and thieves guilds. Some of Banem's most devout followers are given dark secrets that bend the mortal mind to keep or lost places to guard from adventurers.
