Kingdom of Altix
The Kingdom of Altix was established when about a dozen gnomish towns in the area banded together under the leadership of a paladin named Altix to defeat the army of an orc warlord named Ulash Skullsplitter. After Ulash’s army was defeated these towns decided to create a kingdom with Altix at its first king.
Structure
The Kingdom of Altix is not structured according to feudalism as many of the other kingdoms are. The King rules in tandem with a legislative body called the Council of Mayors. Each town and city in the kingdom elects a mayor and those mayors go to the capital city of Altix for one month of the year to meet with the king and discuss political policy.
The King chooses his heir from amongst his children and his nieces and nephews.
History
Gnomes have lived in both the hills and forests of the land that would eventually become known as the Kingdom of Altix. The rock gnomes settled in the hills of this land along with many hill dwarves because they were very rich in gems and other precious metals. Forest gnomes settled in the forests close to the hills because of their proximity to the villages of their brethren. The gnomes created several cities and villages that existed politically independent from one another for many years.
This changed when a orc warlord named Ulash Skullsplitter formed a large army and attacked and destroyed a couple of villages. This caused a gnome paladin named Altix to travel between the cities and villages of the region to united them into a single fighting force. Atlix's army defated Ulash's army in the end and he slew Ulash himself in the final battle. The war against Ulash inflicted a terrible loss of life on the gnomes and dwarves of the region, and because of this, they decided to create a kingdom with Altix as the head.
Demography and Population
Gnomes and hill dwarves make up the largest percentage of the population. The cities and villages that are close to the border of the Richlands tend to have a moderate percentage of halflings. There are very few humans in Altix.
