Recorder

To most people of Universe #314, a Recorder appears much like a rather thick book.

Professor Horatio Q. Booper-Snoot often carries one of these around.

It can be used somewhat like a tablet computer, a limited 3D printer, a temporary battery or energy device, a spellbook, one of 321 different kinds of Wikipedia libraries, an actual library complete with the distinct smell of old books and dripping wax candles, a grocery list, or as a rather effective doorstop.

Utility

It is a multipurpose device, not limited to the recording and processing of facts and figures. For one, it is the home/resting place of a Stylus. It can also take objects from other universes and dimensions and can alter them to serve other purposes. It ways, it's much like a computer and 3D printer, but so much more.

It even can be used as a temporary power source, but whether electromagnetic or arcane, such an operation is limited—perhaps just enough to run an Earth mini-refrigerator for three or four hours. Or, it could keep a small magical portal open for two hours or so.

Access & Availability
It seems like everyone and their pet banana slug in the Six Stable Universes is carrying one of these things around in their back pocket. Watching short KlokPunk videos on one of them holographic pages. It's a disgrace, really. Nobody at the dinner table askin' ya how your day at the Transcendental Flipper Factory was. I don't even want to think about my nephew sending me messages whilst on the privy.

Complexity

The Recorder is a magitechnical device that has the ability to work in non-magical universes, although in a somewhat limited capacity. It works best in universes where magic and technology are co-equal forces.

A Stylus is required to use the Recorder. Otherwise its utility is much diminished.
