Dread Silver

Properties

Material Characteristics

This material is difficult to work with and much of the finer craftsmanship has been lost to time. Once refined it's a nice, silvery color.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Once refined, Dread Silver is very similar in its properties to Mithril which is why it is also called 'tainted Mithril'.
Items made from this material count as silvered, are surprisingly light and seem immune to rust and acid that would damage it. However, this material has heat-retaining properties which can be inconvenient. For this reason, buyers are fairly difficult to find.   Dread Silver can only be forged with fire of either divine or infernal origin.

Geology & Geography

Unlike Mithril, Dread Silver ore is found on or near the surface. Its current only known location is rock formations in the Dread Woods .
Items made of this material, however, may be found all over known civilizations if found at all.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Raw ore, 0,5 kg: 20GP
Weapons: +200 GP to +300 GP
Armour: +100 GP to +150 GP
Tools: +50 GP to 100 GP   Dread silver is as rare as Mithril and Adamantine but it is more difficult to find buyers. Its tendency to retain heat for long periods of time make for an inconvenient effect in the eyes of adventurers, mercenaries, and guards who expect to be dealing with several kinds of fire-chucking opponents.
Artists and craftsmen have less interest in items made of this material as well since it is often more expensive than its steel counterparts.
On the other hand, those who do want an item of this material have to hope they'll be able to find exactly what they need as having it reforged into something else is often not worth the effort nor extra cost.
