Wards of Protection
Even those able to set up advanced wards through some branch of Arcana can use this bare-bones version. By making a circle of salt, sulfur, or iron shavings, an attempt is made to keep harmful creatures out. This might not work on everything and certainly not on those with a strong will - but it's something. And when you're far away from your normal sancuary, it is a way to gain at least a moment of rrespite.
