Yraur

A large nation and region of the Zar Belt, the middle belt system present in the Beta Targos System

Yraur is most well known for one particular animal species that can actively camouflage itself by changing to a vantablack colour. It can also hide in asteroids by changing to the asteroid colour, keeping itself hidden from predators very effectively, or prey.

As many creatures rely on long range 'zoomable' eyesight, this creature has evolved to hide from this sense very efficiently. However, as vantablack must still obey the laws of physics and emit radiation, they will emit a significant amount of infrared radiation, picked up easily by most organisms that can detect IR waves. Outside of Harkas purposed organisms, there are only a number of species with this capability.

The cloaking creature has thus become perhaps the best known example of organic stealth in the system outside of purposed organisms. In fact, this has inspired much harkas bioengineering adopted by the Yraur nation, particularly for warfare, or perhaps other uses where displaying a range of colours is practical. Some harkas have modified themselves, mostly for fashion uses but sometimes for practical uses, such as warfare.

Many other nations took inspiration from Yraur's cloaking bioships to make their own. Many nations feared Yraur for their excellent espionage and ability to strike through surprise and manage a guerilla war on a massive scale. However, other nations wanted this ability for themselves and have tried many strategies - including declaring war itself - to obtain more information and knowledge on space stealth. Eventually, some nations resorted to engineering a number of purposed organisms that would detect IR radiation, effectively countering the Yrauran cloaking. Other nations experimented with radar-like organisms. Yraur thus designed creatures to reduce their radar cross section, incoroprating a number of extremly smooth and absorbative flat surfaces designed to reflect or absorb radar signals, making themselves appear very small on radar. They also experimented with biological materials that reduce their IR signature, but would have to remove waste heat in other ways, probably through losing mass. They often removed excess heat through emission of matter such as through RCS thrusters and moving waste heat to their excrement. The former method reveals their position by emitting visible and IR light, and the latter method is not sufficient to remove all waste heat on its own. As such, changing velocity in such a bioship would cause it to emit heat.

The population of Yraur mostly lived in large asteroids. Although not well hidden, they could serve to protect people inside it from predators and enemy bioship weapons. They ensured these asteroids had a lot of armour, able to take heavy hits from bioships without breaking or, in some cases, losing atmosphere. Some people from surface planets could come up as tourists or to move to an entirely different environment.
