Xaral Special Forces Unit

Elite, special forces infantry units of the Xalarin Council.

The Xaral can perform a wide range of roles such as recon, a highly trained and disciplined frontline force (in rare cases), or even in espionage. The Xaral are given a special badge as well as a slightly different colour scheme on their uniforms to distinguish them.  Though the Xaral rank is highly honored and rare, it is not extremely rare to the point of unsuitability. This allows the XC to use them to support an entire planetary front, or even many more if required.

When in action, they are often equipped with a highly advanced cloaking device which works within atmospheres. Though their camouflage patterns are not visible while the cloaking device is active, it can hide soldiers from enemy view while they are inactive, like when they are still in camp. This can save a number of lives if the enemy manages to penetrate deep enough to reach xalarin camps.

Depending on role, the Xaral can be equipped with a number of weapons ranging from sniper rifles to small weapons like pistols to anti tank or anti air missile launchers. They are some of the most versatile units of the XC.

The Xaral came into their own and proved their value on the battlefield against the GAE, several decades after the XC - GAE first contact. The technologically less advanced GAE could not easily detect the Xaral forces when they were present, giving the XC many chances to launch rapid preemptive strikes. This makes it harder to attack the XC a lot especially when supply lines are being constantly raided. At this time, though, neither faction was large enough to properly invade the other and the war ended before the XC managed to take over any galaxies, and any expeditionary forces sent there after the war were recalled back to the XC. Apart from the deathcount, and costs of ruined ships, spent ammunition ect., the war had surprisingly little impact on these star nations. 

Due to their effectiveness, they are often used n propaganda and even as a terror force used to scare the enemy.

The cloaking device s not completely infallible. The heat signature released by any individuals wearing it is likely to still be fairly large, and thus they remain detectable to infrared cameras and such. Some individuals may make use of specially designed heat signature suppression equipment like thermal clothes. Despite improvements in technology, they can sometimes 'ripple' and distort, making them slightly visible particularly when they are moving. This is the primary way to find them at short range distances and without thermal imaging equipment. The Xaral are trained with the information that they are not entirely invisible, and still need to make attempts to stay hidden. The xaral will never rely on these cloaking devices too much because of this.
