Uragax
The 'species' of robots which make up the population of the faction Systems of UGX_20.
The Uragax are roughly the size of a human, and are comprised almost entirely out of nanobots. Their homeworld is on UGX_20. They underwent a process of natural selection, quite reminiscent of evolution of organic beings. As such, an uragax is not generally considered superior to a human, nor vice versa.
As they became more powerful as a civilization, they advanced 'technologically' via the path of bioengineering, so that almost all uragax technologies are organic. These highly purposed creatures have proven superior to the uragax in many ways such as intelligence and strength, to the point where many uragax were terrified at the idea of an organic being rebellion which some feared might destroy their society. Though this has not proven to be the case, many have decided to adopt these forms as their own bodies, rather than the inefficient machines. These individuals have become known as the post-uragax, and while their superiority is accepted this comes with a lot of controversy. As such, the post-uragax are heavily restricted by law to prevent them from destroying or enslaving the regular uragax. However, even some ordinary individuals are transferred to post-uragax bodies before they are about to die, which strangely improves their lifespan as UGX gene-replication organic machines (e.g. their ribosome-equivalents) are far more efficient than natural ones. Because bioengineering is their primary method of 'technological' advancement, they highly value skilled bioengineers in their culture who continually push the boundaries of what they consider possible. They are quite curious about many other factions near their space, who rather than being mechanical and building biological ships, are organic beings building mechanical ships. They have initially misjudged some of these mechanical ships as being pathetic, but have eventually come to understand they are not the norm.
The original, mechanical uragax are mostly humanoid beings. With 2 arms each with 6 fingers including a thumb (for superior tool manipulation), as well as 2 large legs, they have a very multipurpose body and are highly mobile like humans. They usually appear mostly grey on the outside, the colour of their nanobots. They can vary in colour depending on the exact material composition of their body, and even vary in size.
They must still obtain materials to repair and energise their bodies with, but most materials obtained are likely to be wasted. This is often done by scrapping nearby metal constructs using their nanobots, usually other species of the planet, creating an ecosystem that is fairly reminiscent of an organic one. Energy is obtained by exploiting a species of nanobots that produce energy for the ecosystem that are present in most locations of the planet, allowing them to focus on obtaining metal to salvage.
The mechanical uragax are also more prone to weather effects than more 'average' organic beings comparable to themselves. This gives them a somewhat shorter lifespan than similar organic beings.
