Scarlian

An ethnicity of Suons from the Scarlet Hollows, a very large cave system in planet Tebburus.   The hollows stretched across Cobloiso and Eflein and was one of the few ways between the continent and archipaleigo that did not involve crossing the ocean between them. They are the ethnicity that shared their contact with the other side of the cave. As such, Cobloisans and Efleinians knew the other existed.   As most life in the Scarlet Hollows is red in colouration, Scarlian suons are also bright red, in both skin and bioluminescence colour.   In their culture, almost all life was red. This made it the colour of life in Scarlan culture, rather than green or blue. Also, other cultures had a slightly higher chance to see them as evil as red is typically depicted as an evil colour.   The scarlians have obtained their red colour from an exotic microbe that can survive most effectively in microbiomes of organisms that live in the scarlet cavern. This was because of the abundance of a specific chemical in that area. Despite still being considered part of the suon species, scarlians had to ingest this chemical to maintain a healthy microbiome. This could be obtained from any food within the Scarlet Hollows, so they have remained within the cave for thousands of years. They can leave the cave system and eat non-scarlian food, but this would make them sick as their microbiome must adjust. The microbe that results in thie red colouration could be killed, but as the scarlian suon's genome was already modified through thousands of years of influence by this microbe, they will remain red.    Surprisingly to many, the scarlian ethnicity was less focused on conquest than many others despite thteir evil appearance. This has led them to be less effectively defended than other ethnicities, until they were attacked. They believed in peace and thus unified more quickly and easily, but could not allow others to conquer them. Being inexperienced in war, they focused on defending their land more than offense and thus could not stop them from invading them. Captured commanders of enemies told them to attack, and so eventually the scarlians went on the offensive. It would prove futile however, as it was too late. Several powers near their location have gathered enough power to conquer the Scarlet Hollows. Different powers exploited them in different ways, but eventually Tastein would conquer both Cobloiso and Eflein, and take over the Hollows once again. Tastein, as normal, did its best to treat its people well which improved the average happiness of the scarlian population.
