Rekenath Kelp

The Rekenath kelp is a large carnivorous plant species native to Tebburus that lives in the sea and captures prey by drowning them and pulling them into its stomach equivalent organ close tot he ground near its roots.

It is not large enough to eat Suons, but they could theoretically drown them if the suon makes a sound that resembles that of one of its prey species. In this situation, the kelp would release the suon when it realises that its too large to consume, but it might have been too late in some cases.

The Rekenath can detect nearby prey only by hearing sound, so some species of Tebburan wildlife have evolved to be quiet, particularly those that often live near areas with the kelp. The kelp is normally seen underwater near the shore where it can detect ground based species accurately by listening through the ground and obtain a precise location of its feet, though the kelp can and often do eat marine life as well. It is mostly seen where the underwater part of the coast declines very quickly, because that allows the kelp to grow large without being seen by land predators. Like all Tebburus life, it is bioluminescent but that does not give its position away because other kelp species are also bioluminescent. As such, its camouflage is actually excellent but it must attract prey species to its location, for sufficient food.

Once they reach a mature age, the kelp will likely grow objects that can resemble flowers which will disperse seeds around its location. Most seeds will land in the nearby ground, but some will be taken much longer distances to give the kelp species a longer distance method to reproduce. Due to reproducing asexually, it has a large number of recessive genes so its offspring can vary a lot. They are likely to look completely different from its parent plant, sometimes taking up entirely different colours similar to how suons can come in many colours.

Some cultures of suons would actually eat he Rekenath kelp. There are some farms underwater where the suons would spread their seeds and protect them. This was classified by them under a seafood category. However, a larger, bioengineered variant existed that was made by some nations that could eat suons. These were used to protect their continents from water based invasions as a surprising way to damage enemy forces and possibly their morale. This proved relatively effective, for a short time before many nations learned how to identify them easily from a distance. This project never made its cost despite claiming many enemy lives.
