MaS Scientist

Scientists who work in the fields of Magical and Sapience science.

This is a field of science brought into existence mainly by thePhelke species, who can swap bodies with other sentient beings if they make contact with them. This heavily implies the existence of a non-corporeal component of sentient beings, this form being called a 'soul'. This highly esoteric branch of science is similar to magical sciences, at least according to the limited knowledge of the HF. Magic is a relatively classified phenomenon currently, so MaS (Magical and Sapience) scientists are under NDAs to prevent the information leaking. For the benefit of the general public, the sapience component of this field is not classified, so in public it is known simply as sapience science.

A large number of MaS scientists are located near Mauray, either orbiting the planet itself or housed on a nearby station or world. As there is a primitive civilization on Mauray, they cannot interfere with any events there but they study the world as closely as possible from orbit. Many of them also study phelke neurology or any other part of the phelke body which might cause the STP to happen. MaS scientists working with the phelke will very often observe any biological reactions to the STP, of both the people using the ability and the targets of the ability. This lead to a deep understanding of phelke biology, but very little progress has been made on the original goal. 

They are also given a large amount of resources typically, making them very well equipped. Learning about the functions of magic and how the HF can utilise it would grant them a significant advantage on the battlefield, as would being able to trigger the STP at long range. They are often equipped with large Matrioshka Brains and entire data centers to run an immense amount of calculations at once. As they have scanned every atom of some Epthas' bodies, such as that of Sunset Lightmoon, they have found strange runes imprinted inside their body, and some very close studies found out that some similar patterns can be seen even within their brain neuron connections. The Eptha probably have an instinctual knowledge of some of these symbols. The function of this is not fully understood, but it likely is related to magic. MaS scientists are still in the process of studying and archiving the symbols they found. Magitech is invented roughly 9000 years in the future, largely because of the immense effort and resources consumed by MaS science work. This does end up giving them a significant advantage in the end. Many MaS scientists became magicians, and the field of magical and sapience science was finally unified before shortly splitting back into their own respective fields as the HF realised how different magic was from sapience. This also ended up giving the HF Soul Displacement technology.
