LMDM - 1472

A large rocket launcher used by the SR as an infantry mounted anti tank/anti heavy weapon.

The LMDM - 1472 is a guided missile launcher designed to attack targets from the top, where the armour is weakest, or use a direct line of sight firing method, using a different type of missile. Locks can be acquired by identifying and isolating the heat signature probably emitted by the target, and top attack missiles will attempt to impact it from above while direct line of sight missiles will constantly seek to move in the direction of the locked target.

While able to destroy many kinds of enemy tanks, it might fail to penetrate sufficiently heavy armour which might be used on very large war machines. The top attack missile will penetrate less armour than the direct line of sight missile due to a reduced kinetic energy on impact but is designed with a longer range and more propellant, so the missile can be safely fired from long range from cover. On impact, many of the missiles are designed to produce a spalling effect against the enemy armour which is intended to ricochet around the enemy tank and detonate any ammunition inside or to heavily injure crew members.

However, these missiles are likely to fail to destroy a shielded tank with a single hit. There are EMP versions of the missiles available, which will seek towards the high energy signature of a shield which is highly distinguishable from its surroundings almost all of the time. These types of missiles are likely to eliminate the shield of many targets to an extent. If the target is too large, such as an ATV, it might damage the shield but not fully break it.

Despite the drawbacks, it is a key anti tank weapon used by the SR. With its long range and deadly accuracy, it can prevent armoured assaults if used in sufficiently large numbers, and the missiles are available. Two infantrymen can cooperate to eliminate a shielded enemy tank. As one person fires an EMP missile, the other fires an armour penetration missile to hit the target after the EMP missile. The missiles and launchers are mass produced on a large scale especially during wartime and as a consequence are fairly cheap. The locking system is the most advanced part of the weapon, and the rest of the weapon is considered fairly low tech despite its important role. Anti tank infantry often needs to be supported with rifle infantry in order to prevent enemy infantry from easily closing a distance and shooting them.

The LMDM - 1472 has a 40mm barrel and can fit missiles up to 500mm long, which can contribute a lot of weight to an infantryman's pack. As such, the LMDM-1472 requires a significant logistical base to function effectively.
