Lacerator - Class Subspatial Starship
- Does not exist in the Main Timeline -
A Subspatial Starship used by the Accuilax Purifiers to sneak upon an unsuspecting enemy starship and either fire torpedoes at it or surface back to normal space and ram it with a huge drill on the front.
The Lacerator is also one of the smaller Subspatial Starships. It is not needed to be large. As such, it can be detected by subspatial starship detectors. It is very weakly armoured on the sides, so even relatively weak rounds could penetrate it. Because of this, Lacerator captains are also highly careful, as well as aggressive, with their ship. It is difficult to use effectively, but elite forces equipped with Lacerators can tear through ranks of larger enemy ships.
As much of the ship is filled with explosive torpedoes and fuel, it is highly likely to explode entirely when hit. However this will cause the drill to be launched forwards at high speed and potentially cause damage to the enemy anyway.
The Lacerator is powered through a large row of advanced and extremely efficient fusion reactors, designed in a way that the fusion products from some reactors are sent to other reactors down the line to eventually fuse hydrogen into oxygen. This allows the Accuilax ships to produce a huge amount of energy even from a small amount of fuel so that they can last much longer and on higher energy levels without needing to refuel. This takes up a large amount of space within the ship though, and is fairly vulnerable to enemy attacks so redundant output exhaust pipes are mounted to every fusion reactor on the ship. The most well armoured reactors are the ones that fuse hydrogen atoms into helium via the proton-proton chain series of nuclear reactions, the same source that stars use for energy.
Though the Lacerator - class has very thin armour, it has a lot of speed and can evade a lot of enemy fire. This strategy will not work for weapons like photon cannons or superluminal weapons because of the extremely high velocity nature of photons, giving a Lacerator no reasonable amount of time to evade at any reasonable engagement range. As such, it has a strange niche where it tries to avoid some types of combat ships yet engage others, while they are unprepared for a fight, and usually this happens while the enemy ship is still deep in enemy territory. Sometimes the accuilax have been known to deploy Lacerators to attack enemy space stations as well, particularly miltary ones. It is quite possibly for this reason that many factions in the Accuilax alternate timelines have adopted more instantaneous weapons like photon cannons and powerful lasers.
When a Lacerator rams into an enemy ship, it is likely to be annihilated itself as it smashes into enemy armour at extremely high speed. Such an impact is fatal to both the crew of the target and the Lacerator, so the Accuilax often put teleporters on the Lacerator - class. Before raming into an enemy, they can lock onto the enemy ship and plot an autopilot course, and then the crew will teleport off the ship.
