Harbinger of Conquest
A relatively high rank that can be attained in the Alti Dominion military. They sometimes make squad leaders, or much more rarely, platoon leaders.
Harbingers of Conquest have shown a particularly dedicated attitude to their service. They are highly elite infantry, often having served for many years. Destroying a team of Harbingers would make for a strong effort by other factions...
The rank is so advanced that they can situationally override orders from low end officers, within the squad they lead. This is to help prevent inexperienced commanders from using their squads poorly and possibly risk death. Harbingers, who would have had some experience in leading fellow soldiers, could be more suited to this task, except without a view of the bigger picture involving army corps or entire divisions. With great power comes great responsibility, and they are tasked with protecting their people from the enemy. They are tasked with keeping allied morale as high as possible and ensuring their squadmates are familiar with and well equipped for their respective roles (if they are not, the Harbinger can request for them to travel to the rear lines for training). They are also sometimes ordered to take place in parades.
To be promoted to Harbinger, the person in question cannot ask for it, that is likely to delay them from getting promoted further. After-action analysts will see how good a particular individual is doing in battle and may earn promotions like this. Additionally, it might be handed out along with particularly prestigious awards. They are promoted by some higher commander often between the Alti Dominion equivalents of lieutenant and general. They will hold this rank for eternity unless promoted further or demoted. Even in death, they will always be known as a Harbinger.
Like all ranks of the Dominion, Harbingers also have their own unique symbol that other soldiers will immediately recognise. Even most civilians know the symbol, so it is used in propaganda a lot. On their uniforms will be a second symbol denoting which unit they are a part of, as well as the individual's name.
Harbingers, being seen as heroes by the people of the Alti, will often get discounts on therapy treatments, as the government subsides about 40% of the cost back to the Harbingers. This gives them relatively good morale, mostly anyway, which encourages them to perform better. They are also sometimes issued slightly more high quality equipment.
The first Harbingers of Conquest were made following the election of one particular emperor of the Traxilax from back when their planet was not fully unified yet, and wars were still fought. This emperor wanted to improve the morale of their soldiers by commemorating and rewarding some particularly impressive soldiers which other soldiers would look up to and aspire for this rank. The higher morale allowed his army to dominate a number of nearby powers, ensuring all of his forces has suficient supplies. They became effective enough that this emperor's propaganda involved them heavily, so that even civilians would recognise the symbol.
