Faragrah munitions

A type of ammunition used purely by Unified Arkan Council UAC bioships or other purposed organisms for an anti shield role. 

This type of projectile exploits an exotic property of a specific microbe called M. Faragrah which can cause powerful lightning strikes between various objects. This can carry a current powerful enough to cause some significant damage to an enemy shields through electromagnetism. By discharging a large amount of power through a chain of microbes, an immense amount of power can be easily delivered to an enemy. This voltage does not alternate and there is no return path, so the weapons work by discharging large amounts of power within a single moment, usually. Some types exist that can sustain electricity and allow for a longer current flow.

Non bioship entities may also exploit the property. Electricity can arc across an airgap within an atmosphere if the voltage reaches a sufficiently high level, so the Harkas bioengineers invented them to discharge on a very high voltage. There would need to be a continuous energy supply for such an operation because there is no complete circuit formed. 

weapons like these are used to great effect during some particular battles such as when disabling enemy shields was essential to attacking an enemy force. Normally, mechanical starships would take up this role but there can be times where this is impossible such as when reinforcements are unavailable or all mechanical ships are destroyed.

The initial desire to put them in a use explicitly designed to target people was quickly denied by the Hyperion Ethics Committee. Such an organism would have been able to electrocute a huge number of individuals, effectively leaving entire cities dead. It would do this by injecting large amounts of power through their nervous systems.
