Disassembly Warp Drive

Disassembly warp drives are an energy efficient if dangerous method of FTL travel used primarily by the Sulethis Republic.

As theTo'rer'ot will never enter space personally, they have instead built drones to enter space and mine materials, refine materials and wage war with other factions. As such, if one of their ships explode, this will not kill any to'rer'ot. This has allowed them to use more dangerous methods of FTL travel if they wish, and it was found that disassembling a ship down to its constituent atoms to make it extremely dense but small made it significantly more energy efficient as the warp drive had to cover a much smaller area. This type of FTL drive sometimes fails, but the SR has many similar drones at its disposal.

With more recent advances in this technology, it has been made more efficient and ships could be dismantled faster, and preserve more information. It will likely never be made as reliable as other faction FTL, and after warping the ship would have to take time and energy to rebuild itself (making it very unsuitable to stage direct attacks with) but these tradeoffs are worth it for a faction specialising in long range railgun technology and with large numbers of inexpensive starships. Its low energy consumption also gives off a smaller energy signature which makes them slightly more stealthy, except for the fact that costs saved with this FTL drive design allow them to build more ships and more railguns, and significantly large numbers of ships are easy to detect.

It works similar to Alcubierre type warp drives, only covering a very small space in its warp bubble. Much less negative mass is required to warp.

Other factions would not copy this due to the risks of ship destruction and crew death, as well as the fact that it requires highly advanced magnetism technologies to function properly which the SR specialises in.
