Solarite

Solarite is the resulting product of filtering the solar energy produced by the Starsoul It's extremely rare and valuable, used as an important source of energy in the Therean Union of Systems   While it has been known for over a century, new uses, limitations and experiments are being discovered and conducted using this miracle mineral.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Raw Solarite is a flat crystalline shard that usually generates in square or rectangular shapes. Its semi translucent, bright electric blue and produces a faint blue light, with a glossy glass like sheen to it.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Solarite is a highly reactive mineral, which makes it a great source of fuel. When exposed to small quantities of external material, even things like oxygen and nitrogen, it emits blinding light and heat along with a powerful electric current. This discharge will destroy the Solarite in due time, depending on how much prime matter there is. Because of it's volatile nature however it is also very dangerous to manipulate.   If touched, the material would feel warm to the touch, with a tingling from it's electric charge. When it comes to hardness it's about as hard as steel, but more brittle.

Compounds

Raw Solarite is used in the creation of Pure Solium, a more stable and controlled substance that's used as a new age fuel source. Pure Solium is able to tap into the reserves of energy Solarite has just how and when the user wants with the use of specially designed engines.

Origin & Source

Solarite is created in the process of filtering out the raw solar energy from a the Starsoul . It is unknown is the star inside this Starsoul is the only one able to create Solarite, be it from a specific mineral composition or outside influence, or if every star has the prime matter needed to produce it. Normally the shards would be found hovering around the gigantic solar funnels, ranging from 2 inches to a foot in length.

Life & Expiration

The lifespan of Solarite is about 200-260 years, in which time is looses it's heat, electric charge and bright blue hue. Once it reaches it's dead age, if exposed to elements it would normally react to, it shatters like glass exposed under too much heat, but without a violent explosion following it.

History & Usage

Everyday use

The main use of raw Solarite is to convert it into Pure Solium, it's compound and most stable form. This is later used to fuel a large number of machines and industries, from small generator to planet wide power grids.

Hazards

Due to just how reactive it is, Solarite is extremely dangerous when handled raw. Because of its nature to violently reach with common gasses in the atmosphere of many planet, it cannot be exposed, therefore a high pressure vial is used for transportation while it's combined and refined.   If this is not done, or if it's containment is breeched, it will explode with a deadly voltage, produce searing heat and blinding light. The output of a single shard of raw Solarite is enough to level a small building.

Distribution

Storage

Solarite is stored in highly secretive and secure facilities in space around core worlds. The mineral itself is stored suspended in a tube with nothing but a perfect vacuum. These are monitored and cared for 24/7 by both robotic and organic personnel.   Unauthorized entry into these facilities is strictly forbidden and their location is a secret that only the high ranking members of the Union's Government are aware of.

Law & Regulation

The use of Raw Solarite and it's compound form Pure Solium is only for trained and experienced members of the Therean Union of Systems to administer, use and maintain. Planets under the Union hire specialists to manage any and all interactions with Solarite.   The unlawful distribution of these substances will result in the harshest form of punishment befitting the individual's culture.
