Slaymate
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Slaymates are a kind of undead that spontaneously rise when a child dies due to their guardian's betrayal, either outright or through negligence. A rare form of undeath, the circumstances of their death gives them unique properties in undeath which are highly prized by necromancers.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Much like other undead, a slaymate's appearance is a weird and twisted reflection of the form it had in life - a child with a pale slug-like skin, oversized pitch-black eyes, and jagged cavity-filled deciduous teeth. Their disturbingly wide mouths are riddled with rot and decay, and harbor a supernatural disease known as Pale Wasting, which can be transmitted with their bite.
The child's cause of death is often evident on the slaymate, such as Mädinäka Colcamin, whose skull was splintered when she was trampled to death.
Behaviour
Slaymates retain some semblance of a child-like behavior and often seek out adults to look after them; however, they are evil by nature, and usually leave good-natured adults. Though they may perceive other forms of undead as adults, they prefer the living.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Slaymates emit an invisible aura in a 10-foot radius around them, which allows for necromancy spells to be augmented at a lower cost than that they usually require. Thus, they are rarely encountered alone but instead are found in the presence of evil spellcasters and others who dabble in necromancy. Many a slaymate can be found riding, papoose style, on the back of a necromancer who values the slaymate's special abilities.
