Grand Curation

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Grand Curation is a practice observed by librarians in Sophia-Hold where they travel the continent in order to collect pieces of esoteric knowledge. They usually pay very well for documents or accounts; an authentic, verifiable, first-hand account may be bought for over 100 gp.

History

The practice dates back to the construction of the Solariad Spire and the misplacement of a collection of first-hand accounts of the Bayjani Temple City States. In response, scores of librarians were sent out to seek for specific lost pieces of knowledge which were deemed invaluable by the chief archivist; namely, the Legend of the Black Sun, the Epic of Assiss, and the Records of Uizhas (volumes II-XXIV).   The next generation of librarians, who didn't need to seek the lost pieces, were looked down upon by the librarians who did; consequently, a sort of rite of passage, or hazing, was instated, where novice librarians had to go out and return with three pieces of trivia that weren't in Sophia-Hold.   In its current form, the Grand Curation has returned to its practical roots. Librarians are given an allowance which they may only spend to acquire new knowledge; this may include travel expenses, purchasing manuscripts, paying scribes, setting up archeological dig sites, paying for an elder's tale, or any other such ventures.

Execution

The length of a Grand Curation is one year and starts on the 3rd of Coppernium, while the 2nd of Coppernium the following year is dedicated to preparing a large feast and a welcoming ceremony. Those who complete the Grand Curation are inducted as full-fledged Class A librarians, which gives them tentative access to all unrestricted areas of the spire.
