Gorgon
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Gorgons are a large magical bovids that resemble bulls covered in interlocking metallic plates. They are renowned for their foul temper and their ability to petrify.
Basic Information
Anatomy
A gorgon is an enormous bovine creature with large horns who, at first glance, may be confused for a construct due to its artificial-looking armored skin; beneath it, they are beings of flesh and bone. Unlike normal cattle, male and female gorgons are indistinguishable in physical appearance. They are also unable to swim.
The irregularly shaped scales that cover a gorgon are composed of impure iron and coated in a waxy substance that helps to prevent them from rusting. This substance is perpetually exuded from cartilaginous seams between the scales. If a scale somehow succumbs to intense rusting it falls off the body - this leaves the gorgon vulnerable, as they are incapable of growing new ones.
Behaviour
Gorgons have an animal level of intelligence. They are very aggressive creatures that attack intruders on sight, attempting to trample, gore or petrify them by breathing out a cone of green vapor. There is no way to calm them and they are impossible to domesticate. Once a potential threat is petrified, a gorgon instinctively ignores the body.
