Anathema

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Frustrated, they screamed at Suriel. They HATED him. They hated everything he is, they hated everything he stood for. They hated his very essence, and he knew they do even without them uttering a word he understood.
Anathemas, also known as Quells or Intercessors, are a type of incorporeal undead. Though most undead are considered unholy, quells are downright sacrilegious, and are anathema even to gods of undeath. They hate the gods unlike any other being, and are spontaneously animated by this hatred; they seek to harm the devout by severing the connection they have to their deities. It is speculated that when enough of them gather, they can permanently sever this connection. However, in all known cases, a person of true faith will find their way back in no more than a few days.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Quells are humanoid in appearance and lack any distinguishing features that might allude to their race in life. They are draped in ectoplasmic robes that seamlessly blend into their figure; their eyes, glowing green, seem to fixate on those who see them with a piercing gaze.   Anathemas are distinguishable from each other by glowing signs that orbit around them; these signs convey meaning in Necril, with different quells having different statements. The meanings of these symbols are varying heresies against different beliefs, and can be used to infer the quell's identity in life. The anathemas that haunted the temple of Agonis together with Saerbhreathach O' Clochdor stated that "He does not suffer, only I do" and "He has left me, he would not heal me".   The statements are believed to be the person's dying words; anathemas reanimate from those who used their last breath to denounce a deity or deities.
