Underscale Arcanum

"In our most fervent dedication, to our guiding light, Siara."

Purpose / Function

To house the most important history, spells, and knowledge of the Orsai.

Architecture

The entry way Arcanum was carved to look like Siara's head. Her top jaw and teeth looked like they were poking out of the ground. Followed by multiple spiral staircases leading down into the hallway. The stone bookcases went up to the ceiling of each floor. 1 ton bookcases easily pushed by spells now lost to the Orsai. Trained animals ferrying books back and forth throughout the library.

History

The Underscale Arcanum was the most collective expansion of Orsaian knowledge to ever exist. It was built deep underground, its tomes burrowing into the earth. Years of expertise, crafting techniques, knowledge of gardening, historical data on past landmasses, ancient spells, etc. Contributions from all parts of Orsai were held in the Arcanum. It was the highest joy of its librarians to protect the stores of information below.

Thanks to the war with the snakes, it was utterly destroyed. It sustained damage during the first attack, but nothing that wasn't readily rebuildable. But the second attack brought about parties with higher ambitions. Who fought over the library, trying to use the knowledge against the Orsai to wipe them out. In the end, they just left a smoking crater, and a sad memory of a much brighter past. The loss of the Arcanum has left a magical deficit in Ashenia that is still felt to this day.
