Follow my Auras and you will glow as brightly as I.

Structure

The hierarchy amongst the Order is a simple one. It's led by the High Collar, who dictates scripture and what the issues the order should be focusing on. From there the Collars preach, the Walkers spread the faith, the Leashers & Muzzlers calm and stamp down on heretics, the Coats protect the faithful, and the Watchers study for their position.

High Collar - The head of the church who is responsible for the leadership and guidance of the flock. The high collar passes final judgement on cases of blasphemy or religious trials. High Collars are voted in by all other members of the clergy.   Collar - The priest of the faith. A collar is the one you'll see giving sermons and prayers during the holy day.   Walkers - The female attendants who serve the faith. Responsible for house calls and duties that require traveling. These are the Auras emissaries and healers, they'll travel to the sick to tend to their needs.   Leashers - Helps teach parishioners to control urges. When in a state of unrest, they help to keep the populace level headed. Leashers stop their followers from doing things they might regret later.   Muzzlers - If a new faith is gaining traction, the muzzlers will be sent to study and and dissuade the people away from it. Muzzlers do not tolerate a challenger to Aurinine.   Golden Coats - The unflinching military arm of the church. The Auras promote peace, but in this world it's more prudent to be prepared for war. The coats will hold back invaders if need be, but are more often found carrying small campaigns against heretical groups.   Watcher - Church novices. They are still in training and their roles have yet to be decided. These are the young men and women who felt the call to serve their lord and signed up to keep the faith strong.

Public Agenda

Mythology & Lore

Before Aurinine, untouched in his glory, blessed Thera with the presence of Man, it was plagued with foul monsters, ghoulish races and false gods. They were dark and twisted creatures and beings of deceitful malice and ill will. And the Orsai were the scum of these monsters, amidst the great and terrible beasts that existed, these were but roaches. Scuttling along underneath them, but even then they were a savage godless people. They ate and defiled anything they came across that wasn't foul like them. They spit at the false gods, and at Thera itself.

Aurinine in his mercy eliminated the beasts, locking them away in the moon. And the gods that came along with Aurinine, who objected to this act became beasts themselves, and he beat them back, pushing them into the dark corners of Thera, so their influence would not reach those he would lead. After he completed his benelovent acts, he tried to take these low beings hand in hand. And show them a better path beside him, and for this the heathens spit at him. But Aurinine is merciful and turned a blind eye to this insult, for the beasts knew no better.

Then he asked them to bathe in his auras, and he will lift him them up so that they can be filled with his presence, and the heathens mocked him. But Aurinine is not petty, and gave the lowest of the low one more chance, for none could say our lord is not forgiving. For Aurinine offered one last boon to persuade them into his light. Our lord asked them to listen to his call, to feel the power of his howl and to let it guide them. For his call brings power and if they opened their ears, they would reign on high and rule Thera in his name. For this gracious act, the gnawing roaches began to spit at him again, as they did this he froze the saliva inside their mouths until it hardened and became like teeth. And so all would witness the foulness of their people, and know not to trust these beasts forever more.

And so angry was he, righteous in his fury that he began to boil, with his rage volcanic, steam rose from him into the clouds and it began to rain. The rain poured down tenfold and huge lakes began to form across the land. So massive were these pools that the soil below began to be swallowed beneath them, so to fix the terrain he shed his golden coat, and wrapped the water up in his fur, and tied it so tightly it became of bone and skin. And when he went to dry off the bones his breath flew over it, and the bones began to breathe. The water turned to eyes and the breath became lungs, there, upon Thera under the dawn of his Aura, unfolded the birth of man. Aurinine looked into these eyes as innocent as his and he wept, perfect was his creation but he had no gifts to offer them.

Then he turned to Thera and the ones who rejected his love. And he smiled, for he wasted his gifts on beasts, but the beasts would give him a gift in return. Aurinine laid down his people on a hill and gave them one promise. As long as they bowed to him, and all the beast and heathens of the world were brought to heel, anything the sun touched on Thera was theirs. For the words of the Golden Hound were final, and we are his to command.

Divine Origins

The Auras have been around in some fashion since humans have been on Thera.

Tenets of Faith

    The 9 Auras

  1. It is my Aura that birthed you, I shed you from ways unworthy and delivered unto you perfection. Shower me in praise and i shall bathe you in my glory. Praise no other or you'll be blinded in the heart of the jungle, ignorant to the taste of poison, deaf to the roving of stampedes, and muted deep inside of caves where none could hear you.
  2. My ordinations are law above all others. Let not your will falter or my collars will be upon you.
  3. The holdings of thy neighbor rightfully held are theirs and theirs alone. Coveting what is theirs will bring my wrath upon you.
  4. Judgement is mine alone. Harming my followers without my permission shall be your end.
  5. Those who wield my name to promote falsehoods will have their tongues turned into snakes. And their own venomous words will swallow them whole.
  6. Respect your elders. For their time to be welcomed into my realm is near. And i will know all who transgress against them.
  7. Do no harm to children. For they will grow to carry my word into foreign hearts.
  8. In times of war, prisoners must be given a chance to embrace me.
  9. Love for your hounds is love for me. Their bite is my protection, their fur is my warmth, their growl is my warning. Through them i remain at your side. Heed my calls and all will be well. For I am Aurinine the Golden Hound. I brighten the darkness and embolden the fearful. And I am here.

Worship

The Auras have a church but it's not for common people, its for the priesthood. It is their office of business and personal house of worship. It is only opened to everyone on holidays. Since the entire city of No'Pierre is Aurianian, the city is seen as their place of worship.

The followers of the faith do not have a certain day to pray, they pray every day in the morning. Every morning they come outside to the left of their doorstep and begin reciting their honored print. The Collars walk around the city reciting the scripture of the day. During that time no work, no play, no noise or distractions are allowed. After they are done the regular day may start.

Another way they can worship is by walking the path. No'Pierre carved the Print into the city streets on a walkway that spans the entire city. It is only to be walked on if you're walking the path. Of course there is prayer and other ways to worship including music and plays but those are the traditional and most basic ways to worship.

Other sects of the Order have their own ways. The Mirrored Paw lives with wolves and dogs in nature, Kaa Ahak shaves their heads and the Luminous Throng pray to multiple gods. Worship comes in many forms and it is all important, and appreciated by Aurinine and the Order. But more importantly is the fact, that worship does indeed come. Be it small or on a grand scale, all worship is needed.

Political Influence & Intrigue

In No'Pierre religion is a must for any human. So any politician who does not seem devout may risk more than losing their position, standing, influence and in extreme cases, even their lives. Any merchant who wants to continue to receive patronage or favorable contracts must pray. Any artist will have to create a few works for the church, so they can be free to work as they wish, but must stay within what the religion allows if they want to continue practicing their craft.

Sects

The earliest sect to branch off is House of the Mirrored Paw.
  • They believe to truly be worthy of Aurinine they must be as close as possible to his earthly forms. They chose to live in the wilds and commune with wolves. This sect was growing quickly but the arrival of Werewolves soured peoples opinion of them. They have a very small following now.
The second is the Cult of the Lamentian Prowl.
  • This order was the most volatile, not only had they began launching attacks against the Orsai. But pretty much anyone that was wasn't a human follower of Aurinine was on there list of enemies. They considered these attacks to be mercy kills.
  The third is Kaa Ahak.
  • This order heavily supported penance, pain and suffering in the name of Aurinine to show they were humbled in his glory. At one point they grew in such favor as to become the most popular faction, and began to lead the church. Which allowed them to be the dominant sect for quite a long time. Even though one of their doctrines became so divisive that another sect was formed to oppose the Kaa Ahak's authority. They may not be as dominant as they once were, but there still is a visible presence of this sect to this day.
The fourth is the now extinct branch of Aka Haka.
  • During this time the Head Collars were promoting flagellation and sacrifice. One of the sacrifices mentioned, were the removing of all of ones hair. As a form of deference to Aurinine. This did not sit well with a good portion of their followers. Aurinine teaches that he created them with his fur, and to them removing their hair would be blasphemous, as it represented their fur. The uninterested parties all left the Kaa Ahak, but the leaders would not accept dissent and declared everyone who disagreed with their rules to be enemies of the church. They began fighting, and not only did the Aka Haka keep their hair exposed during battle, they put so much detail into the design that the populace turned the styles into fashion statements. As the two sides fought a bloody war for years, both sides grew weary. Once the Kaa Ahak realized the followers weren't willing to continue fighting members of the same faith anymore. And then small acts of rebellion from the people, who started growing out their hair. Just started to become more of a problem they no longer wanted to deal with anymore. For the sake of the faith they were forced to come to a truce, and agreed to let the Aka Haka merge back into the church. But they had to promise them the more restrictive rules would be abolished, so they could practice their faith with their hair intact. Most of the popular hair fashions amongst humans came from this group.
The next is the Luminous Throng.
  • Over time the faith had gained saints. These saints were similar to gods of other faiths, and some believed this was done deliberately to steal the followers from these gods. To force the gods under the umbrella of the Golden Hound. So this caused some dissent, as some did not believe the faith needed these saints and others accepted it. But a small group not only accepted these saints, but embraced them as gods on the same level as Aurinine. The gods were given canine aspects as well. The new gods of this sect are as follows:

  • 1. Stervula the Silver Fox - The motherly and comforting lap for the faithful. When the sick need healing, they pray to the Fox for a cure, or to make them feel comfortable in their last days. When the mothers need strength in raising their children and keeping their households together, they ask the Fox for guidance. When the lovers need perseverance in comforting their patrons. Or the task of population upkeep demands their sacrifice, they call to the Fox to keep them healthy, and to help them complete their task.
    2. Swathor the Bronze Wolf - The faiths dutiful defender and savior of non-believers. When the need for heathens to be absolved of their sins, the paladins call upon the Wolf to guide their hand. When the shield line stands against their enemies to defend the weak, the Wolfs face is on their bucklers. When battle is upon them and the time for boys to join the ranks of their fathers and become warriors, and to walk a path that not all may return from. It is the Wolf they look toward to bolster their resolve.
    3. Ornis the Rose Coyote - The follower and teacher of the faithful. When the faith needs education, and must advance their understanding of the world, they follow the steps of the Coyote, who leads them to the knowledge they seek. When a follower of the faith doubts themselves, and have questions that need further assessment. It is the Coyote that they call upon for understanding.
    4. Warsaf the Palladium Hyena of Spotted Ways - The faiths tactician of fortitude against the waning mind. When the old or infirm no longer can fully control themselves, and need a hand with keeping their mind from straying, they call on the Hyena to remind them of what is true. When one fears an outsider has taken root in them, and has ill intentions, it is the Hyena who is cried out to and who will swarm the negative influence until it is thrust back into the void.

The last is the FangsĀ of Ululation.
  • This sect got its start in the House of the Mirrored Paw, after the events of the Werewolf Invasion. Some members saw this tragedy as a lesson and opportunity. Believing they would have never been attacked if they hadn't strayed so far from Aurinine. They saw the werewolves as symbols of power, ferocity and the perfect follower for the Golden Hound. As part man and part wolf they would be the closest they could be to perfection, so the Fangs set out to willingly become werewolves. They split from Mirrored Paw, and gained followers from every sect except for the Lamentian Prowl, who swore to hunt down every member. The rest of the church as a whole rejected them and officially excommunicated them, but they were undeterred. They left their city and continue to recruit despite their former allies turning agaisnt them. The Fangs criteria for joining is somewhat strict, only allowing humans who want to turn and werewolves who are willing to worship Aurinine. But it's not a guarantee when you become one of the werefolk that you will be a werewolf. If you turn into one of the other variants of were people, then you are automatically cast out of the Fangs.

Always beside and behind, Aurinine the Divine. From above never below, Through the auras we grow. To carry and to lead, the Order is our steed.
