Spirits

Spirit is a broadly applied term most commonly used to refer to intangible aspects of the natural world. It is often used interchangeably with the concept of a soul, or something of the "true nature" of a being.

There are a wide variety of theoretical and hypothetical understandings of spirits, and many different practices that claim or believe to be witnessing, interacting, or communicating with spirits or the spirit realm.

Similarly the spirit realm draws a number of different interpretations and theories. Broadly speaking it is considered to either be an alternate or parallel plane of existence that spirits inhabit, or a concurrent reality overlayed with our own that can only be perceived through extraordinary means.

The interaction between spirits (or the spirit realm) and arcane Magic is largely untested in recognised academic circles, both due to the limited access to existing practitioners of spirit-focused magic, and the challenges experienced in accessing (or even verifying the veracity of) the spirit realm by traditional arcane magic users.
