The Mortal Choir

The Holy Chorus tells of the first man, Adewale, the one who sang the sky into being. One after another joined his song, adding intricate harmonies to help support his powerful voice. This became known as the Chorus of Creation, known to others as the Weave, the Source, and the Gate. According to those who keep these records, the Mortal Choir, Adewale would become known as the Joyous, and those who sang with him to create the universe were known as The Five Ancients, the oldest gods to look upon all that exists. The Five have always been made up of the following divines mantles, though the bearers of such mantles have changed somewhat:
  • Sun, the Pyrelord
  • Stars, the Starkeeper
  • Moon, the Moonmaiden
  • Space Between, the Nightsister
  • Mortality, the Joyous
The specific order of Thelekar’s creation remains a mystery to the Mortal Choir, but they attribute the creation of humanity to Adewale alone, which may explain the quirks of the earliest depictions of humans found on Thelekar: Golden eyes, carved features, clothes of molten gold, and stature comparable to that of giants. Such features are rare in the modern era, only known to persist in the Drake Dynasty of Amal. Despite their deep connection to Adewale, the Joyous always taught the importance of recognizing the world around them, the celestial bodies that kept them alive and safe from whatever threats may one day appear.   Eventually, Adweale was joined by many of his descendants, as the barriers between mortal and divine in these times were paper thin. The first sailor became known as Valkur the Mighty, the first warrior became known as Maliece Luminar, the first mother became Shiallia, many grew mighty and spread their power amongst their descendants. Eventually, Maliece replaced Lathander as the Pyrelord, and he became one of the prime deities of early humanity, while many others became demigods of the Five Ancients. When such unity existed between mortals and gods, there was no need for kings and lords, and humanity thrived, creating homesteads across Ardina. Many important family names were born during this time, including Drake, Voletaria, and Khovitch, and though most have found new gods to call upon in their times of need, the Mortal Choir holds a spot at all rituals and services for their human brethren who may one day return to the fold.
