Dux Quintus Gratian
The Dux of Clan Gratian has retained large amounts of wealth and influence in the courts of the World Garden, reportedly even turning the Empress' own ear now and then, despite lacking the amount of land generally required to attain the rank of Dux and the privileges that come with it. Quintus is known for his condescending attitude towards everyone he meets, including his social betters, and rarely treats anyone with the respect that Imperial High Society has come to expect. Every year he plucks the Imperial Academy's most promising students from the classroom, bringing them into his employ as personal agents in his household affairs. What these agents do remains a mystery to outsiders, though he is usually accompanied by at least two well dressed attendants who are always armed and ready for a seemingly imminent attack.
It was later revealed by The Chain following their victory against Pontiff Elvira that Quintus was merely a cover for the Outer God called The Orphan. It was one of his many forms, like the God of Lies Cyric and later the Secretkeeper herself, after he mantled her. Nowadays, you're unlikely to find anyone in Bloom who admits to having done business with the Dux, as it is likely that one of those heroes from The Chain might come calling to make sure they had nothing to do with his plans.
