Camp Stennis

Camp Stennis is named for the young Prince Stennis Vimeur, the war hero of House Vimeur that fought back the genasi army during the War of Wildfire. He established his camp at the edge of the Spellscar, utilizing the talents of his Khilkov allies to set up barriers along the magically charged valley. These barriers managed to hold back any forces of the Elemental Planes for a time, giving Stennis the ability to focus his soldiers on counter attacks without having to worry about the genasi flanking him or attacking the unprotected villages to the west. This barrier was generated by a monument now known as the Vimeur Obelisk, which stands to this day. Though Stennis would fall during the final battle of the War of Wildfire, the location set up around the Obelisk remained for a number of years as an unofficial town between the capital Honrich and the diplomatic city of Griffon Rock. As a result, as major roads were established throughout Tysha, they all eventually found themselves passing through the camp. The settlement has grown ever since, with all trade in Tysha running through Camp Stennis at one point or another.   Despite its advantageous position and important historical relevance, the Spellscar is a poor location for a permanent settlement. The lack of a non-magical fresh water source has greatly limited the maximum permanent population, and the sundered soil of the magic-torn landscape is ill-suited for crops. As a result, less than a hundred people call Camp Stennis their home, relying on the many caravans that travel Tysha for food and supplies. At any given time, however, there are likely thousands of people in the camp, turning a collection of twenty buildings into a sprawling tent and cart city. Traders will often travel to Camp Stennis explicitly to set up a tent shop for a week or two before returning home, knowing that they'll be able to sell goods to fellow merchants, set up deals with their peers, and entice adventurers with their preferable prices to any shops in the city. In a majority of Véritian settlements, a sizable tax is placed upon any goods bought or sold by members of the Torre Guild, but Camp Stennis is just far enough away from Véritian strongholds like Honrich and Calbridge for the Houses of the Church to impose such rules on it. As a result, a few of the permanent buildings in the camp are built to accommodate adventuring parties, such as a few inns, a very large tavern, and a chapter building for the Torre Guild itself to take and offer jobs.
