Bugbears
Amongst the various Greenskin species that exist within the world, it is the Bugbears that are the largest and most savage. Towering brutes with untamed ferocity, their reputation for immense physical strength is only outmatched by their innate fury. Despite their shared ancestry with other Goblinoids, it is the Bugbears that appear to have retained their primal nature.
Appearance
Bugbears are physically intimidating creatures, with an average height between 7 and 8 foot and a frame of pure muscle weighing around 250 to 350 lb. Their form is built for strength and endurance, perfectly adapted for the harsh wilderness found in the The Orcish Tribelands of Northern Astiria. Despite their powerful figures, thy are also deceptively agile, and masters at going unseen in the wilds they call home.
Further adaptations to their rugged lifestyle can be seen quite readily when observing a Bugbear. Thick skin covered head to toe in slight fur helps them survive in harsher weather conditions. This can range from a light yellow to a reddish-brown colour, often perfect for camouflage in the Bugbears natural habitat.
The facial features of a Bugbear are almost bestial, with protruding jaws filled with sharpened teeth and tusks in place of canines. They have long, wedge-shaped ears and flat, large noses, both providing a sharper sense of smell and hearing. Their eyes can be yellow, orange, red, brown and even a striking greenish-white. These are kept sharp and have a predatory gleam. At the end of both their fingers and toes can be found claws, making even an unarmed Bugbear capable of shredding any potential foe with a single strike.
A Bugbear can live to around 80 years, although mature at a quicker rate than humans. Full maturity occurs around the age of 14 or 15, where both female and male Bugbears will display the robust, muscular frames and imposing features characteristic of the species. This rapid maturation ensures they are battle-ready at a young age.
Female Bugbears are very similar to males in appearance, with some notable differences. While nearly equal to the males of their species in strength and size, they will have slightly broader hips and a more robust torso. Their facial features may be slightly more rounded, where males will have angular jaws and traits. Females also exhibit longer fur at the top of their heads, back of the neck and backs.
Behaviour and Abilities
Survival defines many aspects of Bugbear behaviour, with their physicality playing a major role in much of their culture and decisions. Bugbears will usually live in large groups of several families, which can exists as their own unique group or be part of a larger Greenskin Tribe. In either situation, it is the strongest of their number that will be in charge.
When hunting for food or threatened, Bugbears favour direct confrontation, using their power to overwhelm their foes with brute force rather than intricate strategy. Despite this, they do exhibit a keen instinct for ambush tactics. As natural survivors in the wild, they are fully capable of remaining hidden and setting traps for potential prey or opponents. Once their trap is sprung, there is very little that can survive the rare aggression bought to bare.
