Shining Moon

Shining Moon is a mid-year festival celebrating the majority of Lix, the largest of the world's moons. Lix is seen as an aspect of Isala, goddess of life and death, and so Shining Moon is by extension a celebration of new births and a remembrance of those who have passed on. Shining Moon takes place during the month of the same name, the 4th month of the year.

Execution

The festival of Shining Moon is celebrated by most throughout the world. In smaller settlements, the entire town or village may come together to celebrate, while in the cities multiple celebrations will take place across different communities. Such celebrations often begin with a group prayer to the goddess Isala for the safekeeping of the souls of those who have died in the previous year. As part of this prayer, tributes will often be left at the graves of those who have passed away recently.   Once the dead are commemorated, the newborns of the community are also celebrated. New mothers and fathers will be given gifts of food and furniture to help care for their child, and in some communities children may not even be named until they have seen their first Shining Moon.

Components and tools

Moonstone gems and white flowers are often left at the graves of those who have recently died as an offering to Isala.

Observance

Shining Moon takes place when the moon Lix is at its brightest. This occurs in the fourth month of the year.
