Celebration of Novus Sol
After the Night of Skótos, the second holiday of the Festival of Renewal begins. The Celebration of Novus Sol, or the "New Sun", is a three day long event comprised of much revelry. This celebration honors Marr The Pilgrim and his work as the creator of all of the World of Grae. During the Celebration, it is typical to visit the various festivities open to all, found in city squares, taverns and parks. Such festivities include festival games, competitions, performances, and all manner of food and drink. During this time, the intermingling of diverse social classes that wouldn't typically mix becomes perfectly acceptable in this celebration of new beginnings. During the celebration, a special emphasis on the honoring of artisans and craftsmen is given, as the High Divine himself is often considered to be the Chief Craftsman, his greatest creation being the World of Grae. Many of these craftsmen will set up booths in places of celebration displaying and selling their wares, as well as giving demonstrations of their craft. It is also traditional for such craftsmen to seek out apprentices to learn their trade at this time. On the final day of Novus Sol, it is tradition to exchange gifts with loved ones. These gifts are selected and given with the specific intent to encourage a new beginning or growth in their lives, or otherwise spark creativity and creation. Typical gifts may include seeds to grow over the coming year, tools of the trade given to the apprentices just starting in their new craft, fine linens or silks to be used to create new garments, or even a sword to protect those setting out on a new adventure over the coming year. Whatever the gift given, it should be done so as a boon to its intended receiver in some new endeavor they are undertaking.
