Detailed explanation: Yddian
To the immediate west of the prolific Contender's Ocean, one will find the recognizable land of Yddian, with its immense deserts, lush jungles and sweltering savannas providing adequate reason for Yddian's title as the Realms of the Ever-lasting Sun.
Indeed, the Great Yddian desert is the largest hot desert on Az, covering around 60% of the surface and dwarfing the Janid desert of the Long Stretch, being almost four times larger. As a result of this size, the desert is broken up into several constituent regions.
The Eye of Vren is the central region, hottest place on the planet's surface and the origin point for the Vrenidi empire. It garners its name from said Vrenidi people, who named the area, and their capital city found within, after their chief deity Vren, a sun-god. As a result of the cabal of high-priestesses using advanced sorcery to manipulate heat and light, portions of the Eye of Vren have seen the desert sands turn to glass, owing to its alternate identity as the Crystal Desert.
Surrounding the Eye is the major and minor dune seas, together making up more than half the Yddian desert as a whole. The major is so called as it covers the wider area of the two, frequently subjected to the fiercest sandstorms on the planet and found to the east of the Eye of Vren. The minor dune sea moves the opposite direction, experiencing less tumultuous winds and as a result are far less perilous to traverse.
The final large swathes of the desert are known collectively as the Sullen Ring, encircling the dune seas across the continent, seeing a noticeable increase in rainfall and biodiversity, yet still not in sufficient amounts to truly be considered readily habitable for larger species of flora and fauna.
This leads to the regions not explicitly within the Yddian desert; the Vale mountains and the Amersies mountain ranges acting as natural barriers to the desert to the east and west respectively, the Riedo plains savanna which follows the Kiedo river for hundreds of kilometers before melding into the jungles and rain forests of Upper Manara and the country of Gimea.
Manara is a large region composed of the verdant Upper jungles and plains, which require water to an amount which ends up leaving Lower Manara an unexpectedly sparse area of short grasses and shrub land. Gimea in contrast is a country which hugs the eastern shorelines and the Gimean sea, a muggy place composed almost entirety of fetid swampland and oppressive rain forest due to the abundant river system flowing through it.
The remaining regions of Yddian are the collection of smaller out hanging kingdoms to the south-west of the Amersies known together as the Subsidiary Districts, all sharing a tropical climate, small mountain ranges and dominated by bays and other coastal formations. Leaving the most northern tip of the continent, feared for the arboreal labyrinths of Parongo, a foul jungle region famed for its impenetrable gloom, unique animals and plant-life which all seem to exhibit a particular blood-lust for well... anything really, as well as exuding a potentially supernatural aura of malice which dissuades any would be explorers from charting the area.
