Vertruvio's Investigations of the Arcane

"I High Mage Vertruvio present in this tomb the first of my investigations into the arcane. Rather than investigate the natural laws I believe the so called schools deserve investigation. Since most mages are limited in the ability based in these schools I posit that throughout these works you will see that the nature of the arcane is governed by the skills of the schools rather than the antiquated laws.   I also wish to present the case of the unlimited. These are the individuals we see that can access any ability I wish to state up front that even the least talented mage can understand Incanthos failed to explain for is more recognised in my take on the things." - Preface to Vol. 1

Historical Details

Background

Written by the Half Elf Vertruvio who was known as an explorer and presumed the bastard of Algenon Wood-Elf Nobility and an Ingmennium Shield Maiden made quite a rugged yet scholarly mage. Specialising in Evocation and looked down in many scholarly pursuits pushed him to act at greater heights and challenge the Great Incanthos. Published over 65 years the complete work rivals Incanthos' original and even, at points, outstrips it.

History

Most notably in the work is the studies in necromancy conducted by the arch-mage Heinreich Kanzor who contributed to the necromancy portions but readily admitted to his contemporaries that the work was not his and his input was minor in the grand scheme of things.

Public Reaction

Though controversial and much maligned at the time of release especially by the drake sorcerers of the Elgasian Prelate, the work survives and demonstrates a comparable theory that stand up to Incanthos' Law based work.

Legacy

Due to the nature of schools and how they are more distinct than the rather cryptic laws then they stand as a collection that usually supplants Incanthos in the training of new mages with only traditionalists sticking to the older Law series. Additionally the allusions to alpha caster and the subverting of the Law of the Lantern in their abilities allow the more recent Potentia based theories that Triarch Paelais has devised.
