Safe Laws

I find myself having a hard time explaining to humans how to stay safe. There are so many nuances and small things that can be overlooked, never even thought of. Wilders take advantage of habits, sayings, familiarity, anything that will lull humans into even a moment of trust. That is all they need. A moment.
— From the notes of Shou the Wilde Mage
Safe laws are certain rules that can be followed in order to keep one safe. Though this was first made with humans in mind, it is useful for new Wilders as well. These generic safe laws do not necessarily promise safety from everything, nor are they an issue with everything, but they are considered a good set of rules to follow for survival in the Wildes. Specific safe laws can be found on a species' page.

The Laws

  • Do not offer nor receive promises of favors.
  • Do not offer your name. Reply with "you may call me __."
  • Do not eat food offered to you.
  • Do not trust their kindness; they are wonderful deceivers.
  • Do not follow their guidance.
  • Speak with respect but do not idolize them.
  • Do not listen to their music.
  • Kill nothing, harm nothing, tamper with nothing.
  • Do not lie.
  • Do not thank them; this implies owed favors. You can say "I appreciate __" instead.
  • Give nothing that can be considered "yours"; energy, essence, hair, blood, name.
  • Ask nothing of them.
  • Words are powerful; things said in jest or sarcasm will still be binding.
  • The more they mimic a human, the harder they are trying to get you to trust them. Do not trust them.
  • Trust only the Familiars. They exist to keep you safe.
