Classification

It is important to note that intelligence is very subjective here and difficult to measure. A Wilder's classification as non-sentient and unspoken is not an indication that they are unintelligent, and they may in fact be very capable of outsmarting the average human. Vice versa, a Wilder's classification as sentient and spoken does not mean that they are intelligent enough to work out how to open a simple door.
— From the notes of Shou the Wilde Mage
Classifications are how Wilders (the creatures and entities that live within the Wildes) are categorized. Shou specifically uses this method in order to make it simpler for humans to adjust to the Wildes, and for Wilders to interact with each other. It's unknown who first created this system, though it was thought to be created by a human before the common era, in an attempt to make sense of the world they had found. It spread through the mage community as a way to classify Wilders in order to interact with them more easily, so they might trade and learn from them.

Behavior

Ability

Non-Sentient: This creature is a slave to its natural instincts, which will always overpower any intelligence it may have.   Sentient: Intelligence is more powerful than its instincts. They are aware that they exist and are able to think about their impact on the world outside of the present.   Unspoken: Unable to understand and communicate outside of their own species. If they can mimic sounds and reactions, but do not understand the meaning behind what they are saying or doing, this does not count as communication.   Spoken: Able to understand and/or communicate outside of their own species.

Social

Hostile: Will attack most things weaker than them with very few exceptions. It's wise to get away as soon as possible while following the creature's safe laws.   Wary: Will not immediately attack, but they are easily provoked to attack and should be approached only when necessary and with extreme caution.   Friendly: Will not attack unless provoked, usually for a specific reason.   Harmless: Won't ever attack, or simply cannot attack. Entirely harmless.

Status

Physical

Shifter: Able to change forms between their true form, humanoid form, and/or disguised form.   Former Human: Once human before something happened to change them. Humans are at risk as becoming these creatures under certain actions or circumstances.   Traveler: Able to cross between the human world and the Wildes freely.

Social

Hunter: Actively hunt for humans either to eat or to use for other purposes considered to be unpleasant at best.   Trader: Willing to trade items, magic, and other things with most beings.   Ally: Will assist humans when asked, or when given compensation, but they will not actively seek them out.   Protector: Known to seek out humans in order to protect them, help them survive, or get them out of undesirable situations.

Lifespan

Mortal: Aging occurs throughout their life. Barring any other causes, they will die due to aging after a certain number of years.   Immortal: Experience aging at the beginning of their life before reaching a 'peak condition' in which they are considered an adult and they no longer age.   Ageless: Do not experience aging at any point in their lives. They are born and remain as they are.

Strength

Strength is measured on a scale from 1-10, 1 being completely harmless under all circumstances while 10 is able to win in every fight they enter, no matter the species. One's strength is decided based on potential and do not take into account one's personality, willpower, or magic of any kind that weakens their strength. The scale does, however, take into account curses and blessings that bolster one's strength.   1 - 3: Considered relatively harmless under most circumstances. Humans are able to survive encounters with these creatures, and most do not bother placing a Mark due to the uselessness of it.   4 - 6: Average strength for a Wilder. They are capable of killing humans with little issue, though particularly tough humans may give lower scoring Wilders a rough time. Most of those in this tier are mindful enough to be wary about who they cross and what magic they become entwined in, as they are still able to be overpowered by others.   7 - 8: Considered the strongest of the Wildes, these are the creatures whose Marks are almost never challenged. They can kill and do worse to humans with no problem at all, even against humans trained in fighting.   9 - 10: This tier is reserved for very few Wilders, usually those who are a unique species or have been cursed or blessed to raise their strength considerably. No one would dare touch someone Marked by them, and their Marks are impossible to override.   11: The Queen herself is considered at a strength of 11 due to her very unique connection with the Wildes itself.
