First Chair of the Luminaries

Among the Luminaries, the First Chair is the liaison between them and the Ordinaries, as well as between them and their maker, Dr. Rand Engel.  This position holds no real power or authority by law, but is far more than a ceremonial title.  The Luminaries look to their First Chair for leadership, as this person is both mentor and guide.


The title is derived from the primary musician in an orchestra, traditionally the First Violin, who takes their direction from the Conductor (Dr. Engel).  The First Chair gives the starting note to which the other musicians must be in tune.  When the First Chair positions the bow above their strings, the rest prepare to move.  So it is with the First Chair of the Luminaries.

One would expect the First Chair to be among the oldest of the Luminaries, drawing on experience and wisdom achieved through academic excellence; however, the position has been filled for the better part of a decade by the youngest among them, Gabriel, as he is the culmination of the science that created the Luminaries.  His is the brightest intellect of them all.
